Pleasantly surprised! I haven't eaten there in years. The food was great, the portions generous and the staff kind and welcome. The hot and sour soup might be the best I've had. Order anything with mushrooms, they are giant tender tasty black mushrooms.
I've been coming here since I was a baby, and other friends have come here since they were little as well. After moving back to Chicago, one of my friends and I were craving some jjang pong and mongolian beef and while we used to go to places far more convenient and well known, we ended up coming here over and over and over again. I would either take the blue line or Metra from Chicago and my friend would pick me up taking at least 2 hours round trip just to go here, pretty much every Friday for at least two years and counting (at least 100 times in the last three years at this point), ordering pretty much the same thing (jjangpong no mussel, no mushroom [spicy seafood noodle soup] and gochujjapchae [stir fry pork with sliced vegetables]). Every time I go, the taste is a little different. Sometimes, it's a very rich broth, others a little less so but very flavorful. I talk to the owners, and trust me, they are really trying their best to make the food taste good and provide good service, and as a small business with the labor shortage, they are working day and night to provide a good experience for the customer. But every single person I have taken here has loved the food. Give it a try - but, I would highly recommend the jjang pong, gochujjapchae (eaten at restaurant), mongolian beef, and jja jjang myun in that order. Why do I have to go all the way to Niles to get this stuff? Because I've tried most Korean restaurants in Chicago and can't even come close with the jjang pong (too many shortcuts, broth too light, no flavor).
Please give them a try, trust me. It'll be worth it. Also, if anyone questions me having been there over 100 times in the last three years, feel free to show this review, and they'll probably say how crazy I am to go that many times (sometimes multiple times a week).
